And the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Are….

Finally, the time comes where the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are bands that were rock stars in our lifetimes. Among the star-studded class of nominees are big names such as Guns n’ Roses, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joan Jett, and many others that deserve a nod into the hall – located in Cleveland, Ohio. “The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what ‘rock and roll’ means,” said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

For those of you who didn’t know, In order to be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. The 2012 Nominees had to release their first recording no later than 1986.

Undoubtedly the most exciting part of this class of nominees is the possibility of reunions. While some of the most famous disbanded acts in rock’s history such as Led Zeppelin and the Talking Heads managed to set aside differences for one night. Who knows if the Chili Peppers will bring back John Frusciante just for one show in order for him to rightfully be rewarded for the countless amount of incredible songs that he has provided to the music world. But The biggest question this year is whether  sole remaining Guns member Axl Rose will make nice with his estranged former bandmates should the group make it into the Hall of Fame. GNR hasn’t played with their orginal lineup since 1996.  Let’s just hope that if a reunion does happen, Slash and Axl can make it through “Sweet Child O’ Mine” without ripping each others heads off.

The Music World Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Nirvana's "Nevermind"

It’s hard to believe that the album that rewrote the rules for popular music (at least for a few years) is now two decades old. Nevermind, along with Nirvana itself, was responsible for bringing alternative rock to a large mainstream audience, and critics subsequently regarded it as one of the best rock albums of all time. From its eye-catching cover of a baby bobbing for a dollar on a fishing hook , to the way each song hit you over the head, Nevermind became an instant music classic and launched Nirvana into rock superstardom. Released on September 24th 1991 with major hits such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “In Bloom”,  the monumental record has since sold more than 30 million copies and has spent 253 weeks on the Billboard 100 chart. In honor of the 20th anniversary, MTV News will be celebrating all week with videos, interviews, and so much more.

I think it would be appropriate for us all to take some time out of our “busy” days to sit back and listen to a legendary album that changed the music world forever. I know that’s what I’ll be doing.

With the success of Coldplay’s 2008 smash hit album “Viva la Vida”, many wonder if the superstars who wrote hits such as  as “Yellow”, “The Scientist”, the Grammy Award-winning “Clocks”,  can do it again. I’m almost positive they won’t disappoint. Considering they have not only sold over 50 million albums and singles worldwide, but have also succeeded in every album they’ve ever released being certified platinum, I’m pretty confident that we’re in for another classic Coldplay record.

The upcoming album, “Mylo Xyloto” is set to be released over a month from now. Regardless, it continues to climb the charts with pre-orders from the iTunes store (currently sits at #9) . According to MTV news, the band has already begun to debut new songs off of the album such as “Parachute” and the ballad “Up In Flames” which was played for the first time last night in Austin, TX. Sounds pretty good to me. Watch the video below to judge for yourself.

Check back for a review when the new album “Mylo Xyloto” drops October 24.
