Penn State Student Kelly Lynn Barber Releases New EP!

Penn State sophomore, singer/songwriter Kelly Lynn Barber has recently released her EP Cold Reality. Kelly grew up listening to a variety of artists including Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Goo Goo Dolls, and the Foo Fighters. Music has been a huge part of Kelly’s life and other than releasing her EP, she has had various accomplishments throughout her music career. In her senior year of high school, she got to perform on the Rachael Ray Show with her high school’s glee club singing a cover of “Heartbreaker” by Pat Benatar!

She began to record her EP her junior year of high school, where she released two of her songs “I’ll Move on” and “A Hand I Cannot Reach.” She then completed her EP over this past holiday break, where she recorded a few more songs with a friend. At last her EP is now complete and out and ready for grabs. She plans on making an Indiegogo campaign to raise money to record a new EP consisting of 6 tracks. Kelly will be working on her music video for her song “My Own Contradiction,” over this upcoming summer.

Her music style is very raw and not overproduced in any way. What she sounds like on her EP is exactly what she will sound like during a live performance. I have listened to some of her music myself and found her voice to be very honest with a slight bit of edginess to it. Make sure to check out some of Kelly’s originals and covers below and show some support for your fellow Penn Stater. Also, hit like on her Facebook page and subscribe to her YouTube channel to get updates about her musical ventures!

FOSTER THE PEOPLE IS BACK!

I don’t know about everyone else, but I have been waiting to hear some new stuff from Foster the People for quite a while now. After their hit song “Pumped Up Kicks,” they kind of went off the map for a bit. At first I thought “Oh no that can’t possibly be all they had in store for us!” No need to worry, the other day out of the blue, I saw a post about a mural time-lapse video for their new song “Coming of Age.” on their website. I got so excited and felt relieved that my thoughts of Foster the People leaving the music world forever, was false. Turns out they were just in hiding making some more wonderful music. Soon enough after that, they released the track list for the new album, and some of the titles are quite intriguing. I am really excited to hear what “Goats in Trees” sounds like. Rebecca Black Releases New Music Video!

I know that most people are thinking… “Why is Rebecca Black trying to make a comeback?”… or … more specifically “Why is Rebecca Black trying to make a comeback with a song named “Saturday”?” after that whole “Friday” debacle. The truth is Ms. Black never actually went away. She created a YouTube channel a little over two years ago and has managed to build up over half a million subscribers. She has a variety of videos posted ranging from original music, covers, and daily vlogs. Not to mention she has collaborated with many other YouTube stars such as Tyler Ward, Miranda Sings, and now as you can see in this new music video, Dave Days. I unexpectedly found this new song of hers to be quite catchy, even though I didn’t want to. Regardless of her past “Friday” craze… I recommend you to take a listen to her progress throughout the past two years and check out a few of her covers and new music video below!

The Head and the Heart Release New Video!

Indie Folk band, the Head and the Heart, released their music video for their single “Shake” a little over a week ago. This was the first song they previewed off of their newly released album Let’s Be Still. The video is so simple and yet so satisfying. There is something very relatable and alluring about them. This band makes the kind of music that makes me enjoy this crisp fall weather while spending time with my friends around a bonfire. I don’t know how to put it in words… but they create wonderful music that almost every music lover can enjoy. The video seems to be a montage of their time recording in the studio. It was great to see the passion and hard work that went into this track. I am so glad they are becoming a lot more renowned. The other day when I was flipping through the channels on my TV, I saw them being featured on the show Hart of Dixie on the CW. It’s great to see bands like these get the recognition they deserve. Check out their music video for their track “Shake” and “Another Story” from their new album below!

CATHEDRALS Debut Single "Unbound"

New musical duo, based in San Francisco, brings somewhat of a mystical feeling to my ear buds. This is just their first single and I have been captured under their magical musical spell. I’m not sure if it’s there wonderful layers of harmonies, but their first debut single “Unbound” is captivating.  The song is soothing, a bit sad, but kind of puts you in a good mood anyways. It’s an emotional rollercoaster I don’t mind being on. They are fairly new to the music world, and I will be delighted to hear their future musical creations. Check out their debut single below!
