Port Vue Releases Single From Debut EP

All Your Wishes - EP coming soon

Penn State band Port Vue released a teaser for their new EP earlier this semester, and now they’re giving us their first single as a well deserved homecoming present.

“Happy Homecoming from Port Vue!” says the band as they give us the rest of the teaser song they released last month. The track “What You Wish For” is a cautionary tale about finding out that what you think you want may not be what you’re looking for after all.  I love the guitar on this song more than any other aspect, the cool rhythm  comes in first followed by the steady tempo of the drums.  I asked the band for their opinions on how the song came out and they said, “We all enjoy playing it because it turned out to be a more dancey song than some of the others off of the album; crowds really seem to react well to it. Another thing that we all really enjoy is after the last pre-chorus the final chorus jumps around with different repeating parts until the end.” This is definitely the kind of song that sounds even better live so I’m hoping to hear these guys play soon! As we move farther into the fall, fans are getting more and more excited to hear this EP.

Tyler, The Creator Releases Two-Part Music Video

Rapper/producer/director and label owner Tyler, The Creator released a two-part music video Monday night for his songs “Tamale” and “Answer”.  Though it only mentions “Tamale” in the title, the second half of the video features “Answer” as well with that signature guitar riff that hooked fans this year with the release of his extremely successful album, WOLF.  “Tamale” is a fun, horn-filled beat originally intended for Rihanna; contrastingly, “Answer” is a slower song, meant to emulate one of Tyler’s favorite groups, Tame Impala.  The first half of the video is a lot more funny and hype with Tyler in “white face” one second and riding giant cats the next, while the second half features a moodier Tyler smoking a cigarette (which he detests, especially with his asthma) and bitching to his absent father.  Tyler’s friends are often featured in his videos, and Lucas Vercetti makes an appearance playing the riff to Answer.  The direction is excellent, showing Tyler’s improvement on rapping, producing, AND directing all in one video.

Komet Releases New Track "Island"

Recent Penn State grad and EDM artist Komet has released his new song “Island” on the label Hard Dance Nation and it is a banger if I ever heard one.

It opens with some smooth, ambient chords but doesn’t waste time bringing a driving kick into the frame.  The pumping bass throughout the jam is sure to get any pregame moving, and the high pitched synths laden with some sick backdrop piano will keep the party going strong.  Whether you want something to rave to or just something to nod your head to, look no further people. You can support the artist and purchase his track here, and definitely like his Facebook page here.

Return To Matter by Keegan Tawa feat. Kathleen Warner

The new Tawa is out and man is it a banger. As a long time fan of Keegan’s I’ve been looking forward to this song and it did not fail to disappoint. With clean synths and pumping bass, this dynamic piece is clear evidence his production is only getting better. The atmospheric piano throughout the song hypnotizes you as the bright lead builds and builds to a crisp release as warm strings bring tension down. Basically what I’m saying is get ready to dance because listening to this song sitting down is impossible. The choice of vocalist, Kathleen Warner, could not be more on point. Her warm yet airy singing fits perfectly with the ethereal beat, her voice was clearly made for EDM. Kathleen’s flawless tone is highlighted by catchy lyrics authored by Penn State’s own Fleece Genius. There’s definitely a lot of potential in ghostwriting for this guy. When these three talented artists collab on one song, it’s hard to imagine anything other than perfection occurring, and that’s what we got. Here’s to hoping for more collaborations soon!

Earl Sweatshirt Premiers Song "Hive"

Earl Sweatshirt has been teasing fans with tweets about his new music since his return to rap, and high on that list of songs was always “Hive”. With next to no warning, last night he and the rest of Odd Future began a Twitter frenzy to get the word out that one of the new songs from his much anticipated album Doris (set to release August 20th) would be premiered at 9 o’clock. “Hive” features rappers Vince Staples (currently touring with Mac Miller) and Casey Veggies, both long-time friends with members of OF. Casey Veggies hits the hook hard with Earl, and Vince’s verse couldn’t be tighter with lines like “tools hit like pool sticks the way I cue shit”. Earl’s flow is hard to beat, but Staples never disappoints. With two other songs, “Chum” and “Whoa“, from his album already released, August 20th couldn’t come faster for fans of the young rapper. You can pre-order Doris on iTunes here.
