Movin’ On will host their annual Battle of the Bands competition this Saturday, March 31st at 9:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall. The bands will be competing for a spot in the Movin’ On 2012 lineup joining The Avett Brothers, Ludacris, David Mayfield Parade, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Young the Giant.
Out of 12 bands competing, two will be selected to perform at the festival. The bands will be selected based on audience response and the combined scores of guest judges. This year’s judges include Becky Gomberg, Vocal Director of Savoir Faire A Cappella group, Whitney Schmutter 2011 Penn State Idol Winner, B94.5 Morning Zoo, and Paul Barsom a composition professor at the School of Music.
Each band will have 15 minutes to perform original songs. Admission is free for everyone and band merchandise will be sold outside Alumni Hall.

This year’s Movin’ On music festival will be held on Friday, April 27th at 3:30 pm at IM Field West by Beaver Stadium. The event is free admission for both Penn State students and the general public. More information regarding acts and activities will be released as the event approaches. The final itinerary for the day’s performances and events will be available at www.movinon.org.
This year the Movin’ On team selected a wide variety of genres from among their candidates. Folk, Rock, Ska, HipHop, Rap, and House are just just a few of the genres they have going for us this year. The point is there is definitely something for everyone in these winners.
So make sure you come to Battle of the Bands in Alumni Hall on March 31 from 9pm to 1am!
