State In The Real – Penn State Music Scene

Our Most Popular Articles from 2013

2013 had a love/hate relationship with music. There were awesome releases from artists like Beyonce and JT, killer free concerts like Movin’ On and OneRepublic, and local bands like Lenina Crowne strongly making their way into the local music scene. On the other hand, there were certainly some negatives (like a number of big name shows being cancelled last minute, unfortunately). Either way, it was certainly a roller coaster ride for music and music lovers. So before we start the spring semester of 2014, let’s take a look back at some of our most popular posts from 2013:

The Willard Preacher Pissed Off The Wrong Penn State Professor
To start off, one of our most popular articles this past year was actually not related, but Penn State related. As you probably remember, a Penn State professor started yelling back at the Willard Preacher. The Willard Preacher is used to dishing it out, but this time he certainly got an earful.

Penn State’s Movin’ On 2013 featuring MGMT, Brand New, Big Boi, Gloriana and Kids These Days
This year was one of Penn State’s best Movin’ On line ups. With local opening act The Wondershop Showdown, a unique, up-and-coming band like Kids These Days, a rare performance from Brand New, an audiovisual treat from MGMT, and more from other great artists, this was certainly a well-rounded and well-chosen music festival for Penn State.

THON 2013: Live Webcast and Twitter Feed
THON 2013 was amazing. It’s getting bigger and more exciting every year. But not everyone can be at the Bryce Jordan Center for three days straight. So for those worried that they’d miss out on the action, we posted a live webcast and Twitter feed from THON. While they’re not active now, we’ll be sure to share these with you during THON 2014!

Dayglow (Life In Color) to Return to Penn State at Tussey Mountain
Unfortunately, this ended up being cancelled. At least we were excited at the time, right?

ALBUM LEAK: The Story So Far – What You Don't See
Anyone who listens to pop-punk knows that The Story So Far released one of the best albums of the year back in March. The album leaked early, and people were certainly excited to listen to it before it was released.

Penn State's Version of the Harlem Shake (Watch in 1080p HD)
The Harlem Shake. Say what you will about it, but we certainly had a fun time making this video.

OneRepublic to Perform at the Bryce Jordan Center October 3rd
OneRepublic did pretty well for themselves in 2013, with the release of their latest album, a number of radio hits, and shows all over the country. They stopped by Penn State on October 3rd for an awesome FREE show, and certainly delivered.

BOOMBOX, the Largest Outdoor EDM Event to hit State College!
BOOMBOX was an insane EDM show over at Tussey Mountain. We had a lot of fun, and so did the fans and performers. Check out pictures from the show here!

Aaron Carter to Perform at Cafe 210 West at Penn State
Aaron Carter. Cafe 210. Yeah.

LISTEN: Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience Album Stream + Leak
Justin Timberlake, probably more so than anyone (except maybe Beyoncé), killed it in 2013. People were so eager to hear his new album, that one of our most popular articles this year was about his album leaking. That must say something good.

Thank you all for your support over the past year, and continued support as we move into 2014. We hope 2014 is an even better year for music, and we’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on it! Until then, keep it real.
