So you’ve maybe seen a couple tweets show up on your twitter timeline of your friends nominating the twitter handle @THON (Penn State’s 46 hour Dance Marathon which has raised millions of dollars for the fight against pediatric cancer) for a shorty award.
But what exactly is a shorty award you may ask? Well, us social media fiends here at State In The Real are here to save the day and answer all your questions!
The main idea of the Shorty Awards is to honor and showcase the best of social media, recognizing the people and organizations (such as PSU THON) in producing real-time short form content across Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, Foursquare, and the rest of the social Web.
Cool right? But what’s even cooler is the fact that @THON is currently in 3rd place for the #charity Award!
Okay, however, we are Penn State and we obviously don’t settle for third place, so maybe you’re wondering how can we help move THON up in the standings? Easy! All you have to do is go to http://shortyawards.com/thon
Once there, all you have to include is a reason why you are nominating THON for the charity category, here’s an example:
Just keep in mind, you can only vote if you have a twitter, and the only way your vote will count towards THON’s total is by giving a reason why (something similar to what you see above).
