On her newest album, The Electric Lady, Janelle Monáe has honed her sound, straying from the variety that infused her previous ArchAndroid efforts. Doing so may have been one of the best decisions of her career, as she has created one of the most finely-crafted and enjoyable albums of 2013.
A standout track from TEL is the smooth and funk inspired “Givin’ Em What They Love” featuring industry legend Prince, whom the “Q.U.E.E.N.” songstress paid tribute to in 2010. The song is living proof that Monáe is a true talent that is here for the long haul.
