State In The Real's Staff Weighs In On Nicole Westbrook's "It's Thanksgiving"

Just as Rebecca Black’s iconic how-the-hell-did-this-get-big smash “Friday” finally started to fade from that awful part of your subconscious, in the place where the worst pop songs you wish you had never heard seem to hide, another similar “pop” tween has arrived. Nicole Westbrook is hell-bent on following in the footsteps of Black, embracing her destiny as a “so-bad-it’s-good” internet star in lieu of a future full of promise and devoid of Youtube trolls. Indeed, her song “It’s Thanksgiving” has racked up over 7 million views in its short time on the internet, and with its deep, thought-provoking content and superior composition, it’s easy to see why. Produced by and featuring Patrice Wilson (who also produced and featured in “Friday”), “It’s Thanksgiving” has a little bit of singing, a little bit of rapping, and a whole lot of “fun.” It’s the perfect track to send you reeling headfirst into the holiday season!

We at State In The Real were so…struck…by the track, that we decided to share with you all our opinions on “It’s Thanksgiving.” Check out some of our reactions below!

Sam: “My favorite part is ‘school is out, I can shout THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU’ because the feeling is mutual.”

Topher: “I stand by the fact that the random black guy showing up to flip burgers at a middle-school 4th of July cookout is hilarious.”

Joey: “I was a huge fan of the various mashed potato references…where are this girl’s parents?”

Zane: “The heavy religious undertones really flesh out the struggles in the Native American genocide. Plus I like when she uses the turkey leg as a microphone.”

Johnny: “It’s just so warming for the holidays. The chorus has my stomach singing. I think more pop artists should serve this type of dish. I was getting pretty tired of hearing about the sex, drugs, angst and love. None of those flavors bring any depth to the dinner table, whereas singing about a happy day of the week or a holiday just really helps you carve into the music and feel the full pallet of expression in the art that leaves you coming back for seconds. It’s like you can almost taste the music.”

Chris: “When Patrice Wilson popped up mid-way through I almost peed myself.”

Mikal: “Why is the random black guy the only adult in the whole video…”

Atisha: “No way she’s old enough to take that turkey out of the oven by herself….”

Alanna: “Her tank top says ‘Dance Until Dawn,’ but I’m pretty sure her curfew’s 8 PM. On another note, my favorite part was the girl throwing up the deuces in the Christmas photo.”
