Our team at State In The Real was lucky enough to get interviews with some of the dancers! Our first interview was with the lovely Sammiy Gyurko, a junior here at Penn State.
How is THON so far?
Sammi: Great! I’m having a blast!
How are you feeling so far?
Sammi: So far so good. My lower back is a little sore, but it’s not bad.
How did you feel when you found out you were dancing?
Sammi: I cried. I was really excited. I’m dancing in memory of my cousin, so it really meant something to me and my family.
What does the logo or motto mean to you?
Sammi: I’ll go with the motto, Inspire Tomorrow’s Miracles. I guess for me it means that you work hard today so that things are better tomorrow. You can’t take a break. It’s a rolling effort. You always have to be reach for something, and keep inspiring tomorrow’s miracles.
What’s your favorite song been so far? Was there one that got you really pumped up?
Sammi: “It’s Raining Men!” I had a lot of fun singing along to that.
If you could have one performer play at THON, who would it be and why?
Sammi: Missy Elliot because I’m obsessed with her still. She’s a legend!
What’s your favorite part of the line dance?
Sammi: The chorus is really good this year! I really like it. I like that it’s sarcastic- it’s very funny.
What’s the role of music in THON?
Sammi: It keeps people awake. When they play slower songs, you feel your body start relaxing, so the music keeps up awake- it’s really important.
